Vayera – And YHVH Appeared

Roots of Faith 23 Oct 2010 | : ROF Shabbat Services, Roots of Faith, Syndicated

In this week’s Torah reading, Abraham encounters mysterious visitors. Who are these mysterious visitors? Ross covers some of the texts that deal with “appearances of God” throughout the Torah. The class focuses on the figure known as the “Malak YHVH”, translated as the Angel of the LORD. What was the sin of Sodom? Why does the Torah not allow descendants of Lot into the congregation? Was it because of their incestuous origin” This class covers this and much more. We read of a promised seed who will be called Isaac. We also cover the story of the “binding of Isaac”. Glenn Chatterton on Torah Reading Noah

Roots of Faith 09 Oct 2010 | : ROF Shabbat Services, Roots of Faith, Syndicated

In this class, Glenn Chatterton teaches on Torah reading Noach.  He begins his class with a song that he and his wife Rhonda wrote about the story of Noah. He then explores the idea expressed in the Torah of Noah’s righteousness. What was it about Noah that caused him to be called righteous and perfect in his generation? Glenn talks about this and then pulls in a very interesting text from Ezekiel chapter 14. In this text, we read of three men; Noah, Daniel and Job. Glenn’s class looks at these three men and compares them. You will not want to miss this class. “Image courtesy of FreeBibleIllustrations.com
