Mishpatim – Justice and the Weightier Matters of Torah

In this week’s Torah portion, the Children of Israel are given a list of Mishpatim (judgments), called the Covenant Code. These 53 judgments are seemingly unconnected, but within this teaching, Ross shows what constitutes justice as defined by God. Ross teaches on what God delights in and provides some insight into the “Way of Yehovah”. He finds special meaning in the fact that God begins to define His way by announcing freedom to slaves. Justice begins with freedom – but freedom is only brought about by the LAW. Contrary to popular teaching that suggests that the Law puts people in bondage, Ross shows that acceptance of the Torah leads to freedom. The dialogue is also uploaded in this post. “Laying On Of Hands” is meant to accomplish various things. Immersions in the Holy Spirit are sometimes imparted by means of The Laying On Of Hands. Authority to perform various duties and release power into the peoples lives are accomplished by this practice. Hands are an extension and expression of the heart. Ritual washing of the hands is a symbol of a clean heart. Obviously, the hands of those who “lay hands on” others should be clean and a conduit for the Kingdom of God.

This event is shown to be the single most dramatic event in human history. Ross picks up on several key points from the reading. He looks at the idea of Israel’s role as a Kingdom of Priests. In the Book of Acts, we find a discernable pattern: the Kingdom of God is proclaimed and the power of God is demonstrated. And, in response, people turn away from Idolatry and Immorality unto the Living God. They Immerse in water, and are promised the gift of the Holy Spirit of God through the agency of the resurrected Messiah. In Acts Chapter 8, the Samaritans believed the message that Phillip proclaimed. They repented and were immersed. However, they had not received the Holy Spirit yet. The emmissaries were sent to them and prayed for them. They laid hands upon them and they received the Holy inSpiration.
