This week Ross teaches from Torah portion Tetzaveh, but also speaks on the significance of the special reading for this week. This is a special Sabbath called Shabbat Zachor (the Sabbath of Remembrance). What is it that we are supposed to remember on this day? This special reading is always read on the Sabbath before Purim. The story of Purim is recorded in the book of Esther and recounts how an enemy sought to destroy the Jewish people. Of course the evil plot is thwarted but nonetheless, the lesson is delivered on the very day that the evil decree from Haman – a descendant of Amalek is issued. So Ross begins by reminding the people about the command to blot out the remembrance of Amalek. He also shows that this same spirit of Amalek has been waging war against God’s Kingdom from the beginning of time.
From the Torah reading, Ross explores the biblical idea of the Messiah. You will not want to miss this class called, Making Messiahs. In the end he ties it all together.

In this class, Ross teaches on the subject of the Mishkan (tabernacle), but there is MUCH more to this class. Basing his lesson on Exodus 25:8-9. He works through the meaning and purpose of the Miqdash (holy place), a term used to describe both the Temple and the Tabernacle. What was the meaning behind these? What can we learn? The Torah spends more time on the subject of the mishkan than any other subject in the Torah. There must be a reason. You will not want to miss this class.

In this class, Ross teaches on the Liberty that comes from following the Torah. The class is based upon the Torah reading called Mishpatim. The name means “Judgments”.
Ross also brings in an interesting connection between the birth of Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809) and this Torah reading. The day before Abraham Lincoln was born, this Torah reading was read in synagogues around the world. One of the main points in this week’s Torah portion deals with Slaves. The reading from the prophets makes this point as well. Could there be a connection? You will not want to miss this class!

This week, we finish the book of Genesis in our yearly journey through the Torah. Shlomo Gelobter, a Karaite preacher, teaches the class this week. He focuses on Genesis 49:10 and challenges the popular Christian interpretation which applies this text to Jesus. I hope that you enjoy. Join us every week as we “preach Moses from the synagogue on the Sabbath day”.

In this week’s teaching, Ross Nichols speaks on Torah reading Vayyigash (Genesis 44:18 – 47:27). The class begins with some explanation of the ancient reading cycles and the antiquity of the practice of reading the Torah and Prophets in the Synagogue. Ross shows how these readings from the prophets are tied together with their corresponding Torah reading to make a point. In this week’s class, Joseph reveals himself to his brothers. Ross shows that this reading points to a greater revelation to come – a revelation that is spoken of by the ancient prophets of Israel. You will not want to miss this class.
